Language Planning

Mission Statement

As a language planning resource center for the school and community, the CSDR Language Planning Committee supports our educational philosophy with equal emphasis on ASL/English for communication and instruction while promoting cultural diversity.

Educational Philosophy

American Sign Language is a visual language that is ultimately accessible to all students whether they are deaf or hard of hearing.

A solid foundation in ASL can support the development of English literacy.

For essential academic, intellectual, and social-emotional growth, the development of fluency in ASL and written English must begin as early as possible.

Language growth and conceptual learning are facilitated when communication is clear, consistent, meaningful and accessible.

A bilingual (ASL and written English) educational and social environment best meets the needs of deaf students.
