Family Sign Language Classes at CSDR
Participating in ASL classes will help you in communciating with your child(ren). Signing is critical to deaf children’s language development and enables them express their ideas and learn new concepts.
American Sign Language (ASL) classes are offered twice weekly at no charge on the CSDR campus. These classes are reserved for parents/guardians and immediate family members of CSDR students. Classes are also offered in Spanish for our Spanish-speaking families.
This year we offer different classes: Our beginning class is for families who are just learning sign language or who have never taken a class. The advanced class is a continuation from previous classes, and is for families to increase their vocabulary base, communication ability, and grammatical knowledge. Both classes include Deaf culture awareness, guest speakers, and time for questions and answers.
Some attend once and others twice a week, learning new sign vocabulary and sign sentences and questions. Emphasis is placed on developing expressive and receptive skills.
We constantly work to improve schedules and contacts with parents. We appreciate this opportunity to work in partnership with parents, family members and staff to facilitate communication with our Deaf children. For more information or to register for ASL classes please, contact Nanci Shrager, Special Instructional Projects Supervisor: 951-782-6547(v), 951-289-7243(Spanish), 951-824-8113 (VP).
Nothing is better than being able to communicate in ASL!
ASL sign for “Friend”. You are welcome to ASL class and we all shall be friends!
