Career and Technology Education Camp

CTE Camp Brochure Image
California School for the Deaf, Riverside, is offering a Career/ Technology Camp for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. CSDR is located in Riverside, California and offers a comprehensive career/vocational educational program. Campers will stay in dormitories with two to a room on the CSDR campus, eat meals in the cafeteria and attend classes in CSDR’s Career Technology Education Department. The camp will be open on July 9-13, 2007 after 12:00 pm.

Students will have the opportunity to explore careers in Graphic Technology, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Food Service Training, T.V. Production, Web Design,
Photography, Art, and Career Preparation class. These programs will help them improve their communication and socialization skills. Through hands-on career activities they will develop selfesteem, confidence and team work skills.

For your child to make good career decisions, he or she must explore and investigate many careers. Active participation in career exploration activities will help your child become aware of the many career opportunities available and the steps that need to be taken to reach his or her career goals.

Some advantages of career exploration include:

• Understanding the work environment of interesting careers.

• Exposing your child to a variety of careers that he or she may have never considered.

• Discovering the various types of post-high school education and training, as well as their costs. In this manner, your child will not waste getting training unrelated to his or her chosen career.

• The number one reason students drop out of college or training is a lack of career focus. Also, the more undecided a student is, the more likely he or she will need to spend extra money and years in college or training to earn a degree or certificate.

Application:

Parents must complete an application prior to May 11. The camp is limited to the first 60 campers in grades 6-11. All applicants will be notified by May 25. Applications can also be obtained here.
