To get the CA standards correlation for the HS Applied English Language! textbooks, download the PDF file from CSDR Wiki under “Applied English” on the Language Arts page. You fill find only the ELA state standards Grade K-12 (mostly K-6) listed. The standards are organized by the book, so look at the first unit, then find standards under each steps 1-6, and so on. I will ask the company Sopris West to develop the ELD standards correlation that we prefer using. If you want the full version of the standards, you can visit the SoprisWest website.

Hot off the press!
High school students with hearing loss in 10th or 11th grade can enter the third annual RIT SpiRIT Writing Contest, and compete for either $500 cash prizes or a summer camp scholarship to EYF. Creative Communication presents essay contests for students in California. Write 250 words on any non-fiction topic. Teachers with at least 5 students participating receive a free book, and schools with at least 15 submissions receive an award and qualify to apply for a $250 Language Arts scholarship.
If students need help with a topic or writing the essay, they can check out www.studentessaycontest.com.
Deadlines: Fall 2007 (Postmarked by October 17, 2007); Spring 2008 (Postmarked by February 14, 2008); Summer 2008 (Postmarked by July 15, 2008).
Essays must be no longer than 250 words. The number of words used must be written at the bottom of the essay. Each essay must be original, have a title, and be in English.
