Assessment & Behavior Services

The Assessment/Behavior Services Department provides a variety of assessment services at CSDR. We are currently located on the far west side of the campus near Maude Avenue.

· Applicant Assessment: Students who apply for admission into CSDR are reviewed by the Assessment Team to determine assessment needs. This information is shared with the Admissions Committee for final decision of placement. Approximately 50 to 60 students are reviewed on an annual basis.

· Triennial Assessment: As required by law for all students in Special Education, the Assessment Team reviews student files due for triennial review. The purpose of such reviews is to help determine ongoing eligibility for Special Education, and to review progress over the past three years. A report is prepared and shared at the student’s triennial IEP meeting. Approximately 165 students are reviewed for triennial assessment on an annual basis.

· Special Request Assessment: This service is provided to students currently enrolled at CSDR. Students who are not making expected academic gains or have behavioral or social/emotional concerns may be referred for a special assessment. Findings from the evaluation are shared with the student’s IEP team at a post assessment meeting. Approximately 60 students are evaluated through a Special Request Assessment on an annual basis.

Behavior Assessment: This service is provided by the school’s Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) for those students whose behavior is “serious” as defined by California Education Code (self-injurious, assaultive, serious property damage, other pervasive/maladaptive). Approximately 5-10 students require a behavior assessment on an annual basis.

In addition to behavioral assessments, the BICM is also responsible for coordinating school-wide behavior services which includes providing support, intervention techniques and in-service assistance to staff and parents in the management of student’s problematic behaviors.

· California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE): The Assessment Department is responsible for coordinating the administration of the CAHSEE mandated by the California Department of Education. Every student in the class of 2006 and beyond must pass the test in order to receive a High School Diploma upon graduation.

· Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR): The Assessment Department is responsible for coordinating the administration of the California STAR, mandated by the California Department of Education for annual testing purposes. All students in grades 2 through 11 are expected to participate and will be administered the STAR every spring during the months of April and May. Students will be administered the California Achievement Tests - Sixth Edition (CAT/6) and the California Standards Tests (CST).

· California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA): The Assessment Department is responsible for coordinating the administration of the CAPA to those students whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) state that they are to take an alternate test to the STAR (CAPA). The CAPA will be administered every April and May to students with moderate to profound cognitive disabilities who are unable to participate in the regular STAR
