Welcome to CSDR’s Elementary Physical Education page. The mission of our program is to let your child experience a life full of activity and allow them to participate in an emotionally and physically SAFE environment. We emphasize teamwork, cooperation and encouragement while ensuring that EVERY activity keeps ALL the players involved and active. While following the California State Physical Education Standards we provide instructional cues for each unit taught and incorporate language development. We strive for our students to learn physical activities that they can participate in over the course of their lifetime.
This year we are trying something new. We are including all the adapted physical education students into the regular physical education program. This has been both a challenge and a positive learning experience for all involved. Students have learned to help modify activities so each and every student feels successful while participating in the many different activities.
In February, our students competed in their own CSDR Olympics. They learned about the different kinds of activities that occur during the Winter Olympics including bobsledding, cross-country, snowboarding, and slalom. They were challenged to compete in a “speed skating” event while representing various countries. The students were exhausted when done, but each and every one of them enjoyed the event.
Later they learned about bobsledding and built their own bobsleds out of tumbling mats and scooter boards. They learned how to work together while pushing their ‘bobsleds’ back and forth across the gym in their own bobsledding competition. The smile on their faces tells it all!
Recently we worked with paddles. Wow! What a lot of fun. The younger students practiced striking balloons using different body parts to keep the balloon in the air. The children learned how turning their paddles caused the objects to rebound of the paddle in different directions. The older students were challenged to volley a ball across a ‘net’ while using forehand strokes. For many of the students this was a HUGE challenge, as they had never before used a paddle or racquet.
We hope you enjoy the pictures and video clips of your children while they are participating in their physical education class. We are fortunate to be able to provide your child with daily physical education, so please remember to provide your son/daughter with appropriate clothing (especially correct shoes) on a daily basis!
Thank you for letting us work with your children!
