Dear Colleagues,
Greetings with the best wishes that this email finds you well.
I would like to draw your attention to a very special youth summer program for deaf and hard of hearing high school students of color. This program is named “Be What You Are,” and is scheduled for June 29-July 6,2008. To be specific, it is designed for deaf and hard of hearing high school students who are:
(1) African Americans,
(2) Asian Americans,
(3) Native Americans,
(4) Latinos, and
(5) from multi-ethnic backgrounds.
Program Content: Through Fred Beam’s leadership, this program will offer opportunities for creative self-discovery and expression through visual, performing (theatre and dance), and literacy arts in a very supportive and nurturing environment. It will conclude with very exciting, stimulating, and unforgettable showcases and performances.
Financial Support: With the help of the Dean of the College of Professional Studies and Outreach, we have been able to get significant support from the Office of the Provost to cut down participation fee for each participant from $895 to $150. As a result, the total cost for attending this one week fun-filled program for each participant is $150. This includes room and board, a trip to HardRock Cafe, a personal discovery/rope course, and a t-shirt for each participant.
My Request: Please help me share this information with parents of deaf and hard of hearing students of color, organizations serving deaf and hard of hearing students of color, organizations for and by deaf and hard of hearing persons of color, and students of color including those you know who may be interested in this program. For more information about this program and other youth summer programs, please click on http://cpso.gallaudet.edu/x10883.xml and then click on “Middle and High School Youth Programs.”
Thank you so very much in advance for your assistance.
