Dear CSDR Faculty, Staff and Parents:
Last year, the California Department of Education initiated a nationwide recruitment effort to hire a site Superintendent at CSDR. After months of extensive advertising we were unsuccessful in obtaining a competitive pool of candidates. With good fortune on our side, we appointed Mr. Mal Grossinger as your interim site Superintendent.
As described in our job announcement last year, the site Superintendent must be a visionary leader and effective administrator who will ensure a strong and positive image for CSDR at local, state and national levels. The site Superintendent is expected to provide sound leadership within the school and develop a strong learning environment that focuses on successful student performance and outcomes while responding to the educational needs of our Deaf and hard of hearing students. We also stipulated that the site Superintendent must have successful experience in dealing effectively with diverse audiences and constituencies in the Deaf community including students, parents, teachers, support staff, along with public school officials, legislators, and governmental officials at local, state and national levels.
When we carefully reviewed the expectations and measured them against Mr. Grossinger’s current performance, we came to the conclusion that we have found an individual who meets these characteristics and qualities. Furthermore, based upon the feedback the California Department of Education has received from numerous CSDR staff, faculty, parents, school district officials and community leaders, we realized that there are many people who would agree. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Mal Grossinger is being appointed to serve as your site Superintendent effective April 1, 2007.
